Community and the pledge
A marketplace that tied itself to the towns it served, and said so on every page.
The pledge
5% of net profits
LiveShopBuy donates 5% of its net profits to help fight poverty.
That sentence ran across the top of the marketplace’s pages, in capitals, on every category, product and account page.
The community program
A separate site, liveshopcommunity.org, described a “Community Program for Municipal Leaders” — local government introducing the marketplace to its own businesses.
It is linked from the company’s footer navigation, under “For Business”.
Why a marketplace would do this
Local commerce as a public good
For the town
A directory of its own businesses, and a reason for residents to shop with them instead of a national chain.
For the merchant
A digital store and marketing tools without hiring an agency or building a site.
For the marketplace
A model where the company’s own success was tied to a pledge about poverty.
The honest note
What a pledge is, and is not
“5% of net profits” is a commitment against a figure that can be zero. The company published it on the site; it did not publish an audited record of what was given, and this rebuild does not claim one.
